The Artist

Diana Vincent

I’ve been painting since childhood. In school, I was much sought after to guide, refine and even work on art, science and geometry assignments. This made me realise that I was blessed with the gifts of composition, perspective, ratio in anatomy, colour theory and spatial relation. So after school, I continued to tell stories on canvas using my own technique and style. When arthritis prevented me from holding the brush for many years, I started painting with my fingers and hands – the fact that I am ambidextrous helped.

The Technique

A self-taught artist, Diana works with oils, acrylics and pastels interchangeably, using a limited palate for each creation. Her own unique finger-style impasto method, blending fine as well as coarse finishes, mixing colours on the canvas directly from the tubes, would put her work in the impressionist space. She believes firmly that the presence of curiosity, discovery, delight, wonder, mystery and love right from her formative years, more than make up for the lack of formal art-school training.
